Teuim clinic: Aesthetic plastic surgical Clinic Specializing in Asian Blepharoplasty

Teuim Clinic is a clinic specializing in Asian blepharoplasty, often publishing papers about characteristics and surgical procedures relating to Asian eyelids in SCI journals. Out of the many fields in plastic surgery, Teuim Clinic chose to specialize exclusively in blepharoplasty, plastic surgery for the eyelid. Applying the evolution theory of Asian eyelids, the clinic performs epicanthoplasty combined with double eyelid surgery. Dr. Bong Sik Kwon of the Teuim Clinic believes the previous anatomical concept and surgical method for the epicanthal fold has many restrictions for Asian blepharoplasty and his surgical method resolves many of those restrictions. Especially for difficult surgeries like epicanthoplasty, revisional surgery, or double eyelid surgeries for severe epicanthal folds (Mongolian fold), the surgical method which Dr. Kwon had invented is very effective and many patients visit the clinic for these surgeries.

In Teuim Clinic, Dr. Kwon is involved with every step of the process the patient undergoes when getting a surgery. The main reason why Dr. Kwon involves himself with every step of the process, from consultation to the follow-ups after the surgery, is to reduce the chance of complications as much as possible. The clinic also implements a convenient system for foreign patients in which they can have an online consultation and schedule the surgery beforehand. Then those patients can get surgery as soon as they arrive in Korea. In addition, even after the surgery, the clinic provides after-care service via email and online communication. The reason why Dr. Kwon started a clinic that specializes in blepharoplasty is the lack of medical studies of Asian eyelids and the large potential Asian blepharoplasty holds for development. Dr. Kwon said, “Epicanthal folds and epicanthoplasty largely influence the results of double eyelid surgeries. However, previously, there was a lack of understanding of the relationship between those two. By studying the epicanthal fold, epicanthoplasty and double eyelid surgery, I was able to invent a new surgical procedure that uses a new evolution theory. The new surgical procedure improves the results of blepharoplasty and naturally, Teuim clinic became a clinic specializing in Asian eyelid surgery”. Only until ten years ago, there were not enough medical studies studying epicanthal folds, and epicanthoplasty was a very restrictive surgery that only very few clinics performed. However, now, the concept of Asian blepharoplasty is changing to “structural double eyelid surgery”, which is the combination of epicanthoplasty and double eyelid surgery. It’s becoming understood that epicanthoplasty is not separate from double eyelid surgery and instead a part of it. It was in fact Dr. Kwon who first proposed the concept of structural double eyelid surgery and that these two surgeries should be performed together in order to get the best possible results.

Invented Devolution Epicanthoplasty and Double Eyelid Surgical Procedure based on New Evolution Theory

Doctor Bong Sik Kwon said, “Teuim Clinic will research the bio-evolutional aspect of the Asian eyelid to better understand and explain academically its characteristics”. Currently, the clinic performs devolution epicanthoplasty called “Magic Epicanthoplasty”. This surgical procedure uses new understanding of the epicanthal fold as its background and is different from conventional surgical procedures for epicanthoplasty. Conventional surgical procedures for epicanthoplasty often involve the cutting of the fold while, on the other hand, “Magic Epicanthoplasty” structurally rearranges the muscles in the fold and makes the inner corners of the eyes more appropriate for the formation of the double eyelids, thus allowing a more natural double eyelid crease to be created when the double eyelid surgery is performed.

In the past, it was thought that Asian eyelids are genetically different from those of other races. In fact, Asian eyelids were thought to be a congenital abnormality. However, it was hard to explain the various different shapes of double eyelids and epicanthal folds of Asians with these theories, and it was even harder to perform the surgical methods that applied these theories. Dr. Kwon said, “The fact that the theory on epicanthal folds comes from a hypothesis made in the 1830’s, which is before Darwin’s evolution theory, and that many papers published at the time have many errors in current medical viewpoint made the theory look unconvincing. Looking at the research of currently advancing fields like anatomy, bio-evolution, genetics and anthropology, I concluded that the Asian eyelids can be explained from an evolutionary standpoint”. Dr. Kwon explains that from his surgical experience, his structural double eyelid surgery based on devolutional concept, which is the combination of double eyelid surgery and epicanthoplasty, results in more natural-looking Asian eyes. Since the surgical procedure that he had invented by applying the evolution theory has consistently given satisfying results for different kinds of Asian eyelids, Dr. Kwon believes that understanding the anatomical characteristics of Asian eyelids bio-evolutionally is absolutely critical.

Teuim clinic is changing the paradigm of Asian blepharoplasty

Teuim Clinic proposed the evolution theory of the Asian eyelid (“Kwon’s Theory”) and devolutional Asian blepharoplasty. Teuim Clinic changed the paradigm of Asian blepharoplasty by inventing a surgical method (“Structural Asian Eyelid Surgery” applying devolutional concept) that consistently give good results for all kinds of Asian eyelids and eye structures. With its cutting edge technology and medical expertise in Asian blepharoplasty, Teuim Clinic promises you that it will do its best to give you the best results.
